Weapons Seized in Edenbridge

One man arrested during a crackdown on crime in the town

Two weapons have been seized and one man arrested on suspicion drug driving during a crackdown on crime in Edenbridge.

On Friday 23 August 2024, officers partnered with Sussex Police to tackle a recent rise in drugs and vehicle-related crimes in the west Kent town.

During the crackdown, which saw 14 additional officers deployed to the area, patrols spotted a man on CCTV who was acting suspiciously.

He was detained on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs and driving while unfit through drugs.

Searches later led to the seizure of a phone, a baseball bat, and an imitation firearm. The local man, in his 20s, was additionally arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of a moped suspected to be involved in drug supply to Edenbridge and Sevenoaks, and the recovery of a Honda reported to be stolen.

Furthermore, constables issued three traffic offence reports for motoring offences, issued a speed advisory, and resolved an incident of anti-social behaviour involving young people in the High Street.

Inspector Mark Stubberfield said:

‘In response to residents’ concerns about violent crimes in Edenbridge, we are coordinating a regular enhanced police presence in the town and are carrying out more operations specifically designed to tackle burglaries, vehicle thefts, and drugs-related offences. ‘Since implementing a more robust response, I am pleased to say that we have seen a reduction in these types of crimes. Officers will continue to patrol the town to deter offenders and act swiftly to tackle known suspects or suspicious behaviour.’
